Venue: Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia Organizer: Policy and International Relations Division INTRODUCTION In line with its continuous efforts to spur and realise educational excellence in Malaysian educational institutions, the Ministry of Education Malaysia is extending this vision outside its shores by spearheading the annual ASEAN-Student Exchange Programme 2008. The 2nd ASED (ASEAN Ministers of Education Meeting ) in Bali reiterated to importance of enhancing people-to-people linkages particularly in the area of academic exchanges. This sentiment is also expressed in the ASEAN Socio-Cultural community of the Bali Concorde II. The 2nd ASED agreed that the the ASEP be step up so that a more cohesive and integrated ASEAN can be realised, through an investment into the educative process involving our youth from ASEAN member countries. The ASEP which had run from 2000 until 2005, would resume in 2008, with Malaysia as the host country. During the 3rd ASED, the ministers welcomed the proposed revival of the ASEP as agreed during the 2nd ASED and were of the view that it will help strengthened educational linkages within ASEAN and facilitate increased people to people interaction. |
