Cinnamon Rolls E-mail
A cinnamon roll/ bun (cinnamon swirls) is a sweet pastry found thought to have been invented in Sweden. The bun consists of a piece of rolled out dough with cinnamon and sugar is spread over. The dough is then rolled, cut into sliced portions and baked. A great and easy to prepare recipe for breakfast or tea.

Cinnamon Rolls
Ingredients
(serves 8-10 people)

  • 550g flour
  • 25g fresh yeast
  • 8.5g dry yeast or 25g fresh yeast
  • 70g butter melted
  • 210ml milk
  • 75g sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • Pinch of salt
  • For filings: 1 tbsp cinnamon; 200g brown sugar; 85g butter at room temperature
  • For egg wash: 1 egg with 2tbsp milk beaten together; extra flour for dusting

Method
1. Dough: Mix the flour, yeast, salt milk, sugar and egg in a large bowl with a mixer or by hand until it forms a dough. If the dough looks too wet add some flour.
2. Knead by sprinkling dough with some flour. Sprinkle some flour on a flat surface and knead well. Return the dough to a bowl, sprinkle some flour and cover with a damp cloth.  Leave aside for about 1 hour or until it is double in size.
3. While, make the filling by mixing the brown sugar, cinnamon and butter well in a small bowl. Set aside.
4. Preheat the oven to 190 deg. C
5. When the dough has risen, punch the air out of it. Sprinkle a flat wide workspace with flour. Place the dough on it and roll it out to about ½ cm in thickness.
6. Spread the fillings on the entire surface of the dough leaving about 2cm at the sides. Carefully roll the dough into one long log.  Cut the long roll of dough into slices of about 3cm (1inch) slices.
7. Line a baking tray with grease proof paper and place the sliced dough on it. Cover with a damp cloth and leave the dough to rise for 15 to 20 minutes
8. Brush the surface of the dough with the egg wash. Put dough to the dough into the oven to bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
9. Remove from oven and serve.
