Sambal Ikan Billis

SAMBAL IKAN BILIS

Ingredients

  • 1 cup or 80g dried, ikan bilis (salted anchovies), washed
  • 3 tablespoon oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoon lime juice or tamarind juice
  • Sugar and salt to taste,
  • Some water
Ingredients to be grounded:-
  • 3 fresh red chillies 
  • 6 dried red chillies
  • 3 shallots and 5 cloves chopped garlic
  • 5 thin slices of galangal or ginger
  • 1 stalk thinly sliced lemon grass or serai
  • 1 level tablespoon belacan granules or a thin slice of belacan cake (dried shrimp cake) 
Method
  • Fry the anchovies till lightly brown and set aside.
  • Ground the listed ingredients in a food processor or blender (with a little water)
  • Heat oil in a wok or pan. Fry the onions and add the blended ingredients until fragrant and oil surfaces. Add and mix well the ikan billis, salt, sugar and lime juice and water
  • Remove from heat and serve with nasi lemak
