Much of Kedah's history written by local historians comes from the Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa or Kedah Annals (a historiography written in 1898). The annals give details of Kedah, where facts are woven with legends and myths of the land. It tells the history of the royal house of Kedah from the emergence of a Hindu Kingdom to the founding of the Kedah Sultanate.
