Malaysian Students should look out for scholarship and loans available from government organisations or the privaie sector before their SPM or STPM results are out. Loans and scholarships are also often advertised in the local newspapers in Malaysia during these period. Check some of the availabel loans and scholarships that are available yearly from our links.

Scholarships and Loans for Malaysian Students

Public Service Department (PSD) scholarships
Public Service Department (PSD) scholarships (Biasiswa Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam, JPA) are offered to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates in Malaysia.

Applications for Foreign Degree Program (Program Ijazah Luar Negara) can only be done online through www.jpa.gov.my or esila.jpa.gov.my (the day SPM results are released). Interview are carried out in April. Application criteria:

  • Must be for Malaysian citizen (For MARA scholarships, you have to be Malays/Natives)
    16-18 years old
  • Pass health examination
  • Good results – at least 1A or 2A in the following three subjects: Malay Language (Bahasa Melayu), History (Sejarah), Moral Education (Pendidikan Moral) or Islamic Education

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation
The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional, PTPTN) was established under the National Higher Education Fund Act 1997 (Act 566) and is effective from 1 July 1997. PTPTN became operational on 1 November 1997.

      Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional has introduced a savings scheme which puts emphasis on ‘Savings Towards Higher Education’.
Besides ensuring annual dividend returns, the SSPN also provides special financial incentives in the form of Matching Grants especially for low income depositors. In addition, insurance coverage and payment of death compensation is provided free of charge to all eligible depositors. Applications for the Star Education Fund are open to Malaysians for scholarship awards offered by various private educational institutions – colleges, institutes, universities. Application is usually open during the first quarter of the year, after results of the SPM and STPM (Malaysian government exams) are announced.
