General elections in Malaysia, which must be called every five years, have been held since independence in 1957. 2008 is an election year in Malaysia. "PUTRAJAYA, February 2008: The Election Commission has set Feb 24 for parties to nominate candidates for 12th general election Malaysia goes to the polls on March 8. Parliament was dissolved yesterday, ending weeks of speculation. Malaysians will be asked to give a fresh mandate to the government of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. Candidates will vie for 222 parliamentary seats and 505 state seats.
